UNANIMA INTERNATIONAL. Official Statement on COVID 19 and Homeless Families
29/04/2020
"As Executive Director and United Nations representative of UNANIMA International, I am writing today to share with you our organization's statement on the impact of COVID19 on people, specifically women and children, experiencing homelessness and family. This Declaration is aligned with the priority theme of the last session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD58): "Affordable housing systems and social protection for all in order to address homelessness.

Our statement, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, assesses global attention to family homelessness in the international political and media environment of the pandemic, as well as analyzes numerous evident and potential effects on homeless families and the insecurity of housing in the context of the pandemic.

The most vulnerable and most distant left behind have been further marginalized in this global crisis, including people and families who are homeless and directly affected and suffering intensely. Now, more than ever, it is time for all of us to discuss the commitments made by the Member States at the last Commission for Social Development in February 2020 to provide access to affordable housing and social protection coverage for all.

Please find our statement in the attached PDF file. We hope that you find them valuable and that your network and / or organization uses the current crisis as an opportunity to advocate for governments to take the right steps so that their people, and in doing so, put their rights, dignity and life first.

We appreciate your attention and are at your disposal for any additional information. "
Attentively
Jean Quinn
Executive Director
UNANIMA International
